Three days of meetings for experts, stakeholders, public decision-makers and leaders of international organizations: a top-level round table to emphasize just how crucial East Africa and the lively economies that are part of this region are in creating sustainable development in the food supply chain with the help of technology.
The international conference “Food processing&packaging innovation for a sustainable development” is one of the key side events in the first edition of East Afripack 2014. It will start on September 10th and will include three sessions, continuing throughout the first edition of the processing, packaging and converting exhibition catering to the entire East Africa macro-region and the East African Community, coming up at the Kenyatta Center, Nairobi, Kenya, from September 9th to 12th of this year.
Each day from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm will be devoted to a specific topic and will feature prominent speakers. The first day will focus on “Innovation trends in the agro-food chains”, with Mr. Mpoko Bokanga – UNIDO Representative to Kenya, Eritrea and South Sudan – providing the keynote speech. “Sustainable packaging: challenges and solution” is the topic discussed on the second day, September 11th, with an introductory speech by Mr. Thomas L. Schneider, President, World Packaging Organization. The closing day – both for the exhibition and the conference – will be centered on “Normative and Educational pre-requisites for a sustainable development in agro-food chains”, with a keynote lecture by Mr. Paschal Nyabuntu, EAC.
“An international conference of this significance testifies to the importance of East Afripack as the first show of considerable international reach taking place in Africa and dedicated to Food Processing and Packaging – underlines prof. Claudio Peri, president of the Ipack-Ima scientific committee, who together with the members of the East Afripack Steering Committee developed the calendar of the Conference. The goal of the event is give visibility to specific product and process innovations enabling the efficient, sustainable development of small and medium food companies in the East Africa Community (EAC). An interesting addition to the Conference is the ‘Business & Technology Planning Team’. Throughout East Afripack it will create opportunities for in-depth discussion and collaboration between exhibiting companies and international organizations on practical development issues in EAC’s food supply chain”.
